CLTA Remembers

Bruce Cole

(This is the article that appeared on CLTA Facebook page)

A celebration of Bruce Cole’s life was held on Saturday, June 28 at Corning High School. For those of you who knew Bruce, you are not surprised to know that Bruce had become a favorite son of Corning, California, who started his career student teaching there, then became Spanish teacher, vice-principal, principal, and superintendent, all in the same place. His passions were many, but at the top were language and culture. He was such a passionate man, who held everyone enthralled during his lifetime. A wonderful presenter, and a highly regarded leader in the Region 2 CFLP (and CWLP was called then), he was memorialized by so many heart-warming stories from former students, colleagues, friends and family. Christine Lanphere and I attended, and were treated to some of Bruce’s favorite things in life, including crumb cake made by the cafeteria ladies, a haunting performance of Somewhere Over the Rainbow by a former student, and a rousing rendition by those in attendance of the Corning High School fight song. Rest in peace, Bruce Cole, your legacy continues in many places, and most assuredly in CLTA and CWLP.

CLTA encourages everyone contribute to the Memorial Fund in Bruce’s name.
