El Día de las Madres

Objectives:
*Learn about the origin of Mother's Day Celebration.
*Read and analyze a poem for Mother's Day.
*Write a poem in Spanish for their mothers, aunt or grandmother
*Plan a Mother's Day event.

Material:
*computer with access to the World Wide Web
*Student worksheet

Procedure:

  1. Ask the students questions from the students' worksheet about the origin of Mother's Day celebration.
  2. Now pass out the printout of the article about Mother's Day celebration found in: http://www.magiayamor.com/mama/historia.html
  3. Have students read and answer the questions on the article and share their answers with the class.
  4. Have students read the poem "Si tienes una madre todavía" found in: http:/www.dzn.com/~lhindi/Madre-mamá.html
  5. On a separate paper, have the students write the accents on the words that need them.
  6. In groups of four have the students discuss the poem and answer the questions on their worksheet.
  7. Have students make a list of words or phrases that they may use to write in a Mother's Day poem.
  8. Have students write a poem to their mothers, aunt, or grandmother on: http://mx.greetings.yahoo.com/
  9. Have students create a Collage about their mothers and do a presentation. (See student's worksheet for more details.)

Extension:

    Have students plan and organize a Mother's Day event.
    Ideas:
  1. Have one of the students talk about the origin of Mother's Day celebration.
  2. Have students recite their poems.
  3. Organize a Mother-Daughter game show (to see if they know each other).

D. En otro papel escribe los acentos en las palabras que lo llevan.
E. En grupos de cuatro personas analizen el poema y contesten las siguientes preguntas:

1. ¿Quién es el hablante en el poema? (hija-madre-hombre)

2. ¿Por qué?

3. ¿Para quién crees que sea el poema?

4. ¿Cuáles palabras usa el poema para describir a la madre?

5. ¿Cuál es el consejo que nos da?



F. Haz una lista de las palabras o frases que puedes usar para escribir un poema a tu madre, hermana, tía, o abuela.

  1. Escoje una de las tarjetas para escribir tu poema o mensaje.
  2. Saca una copia, múestrasela a tu profesor y llévala a casa para tu madre


H. Tarea: Haz un collage de tu madre (tía, hermana o abuela). Incluye:

  1. una foto de ella
  2. sus cosas favoritas: comida/ropa/pasatiempos
  3. datos importantes: su cumpleaños, su aniversario, lugar de nacimiento etc.


I. Reúnete con toda la clase para organizar y planear una celebración para el Día de las Madres.

  1. Escojan una persona para que hable sobre el origen del Día de las Madres.
  2. Reciten sus poemas enfrente de la clases como práctica para que después lo hagan en la celebración.
  3. Escriban 10 preguntas que puedan hace para el concurso Madre e Hija:


Para la hija: ¿Cuál es el restaurante favorito de tu madre?
Para la madre: ¿Su hija, prefiere ver la T.V. o escuchar la radio?
