Dear Senator Knight:
As a world language teacher, I am dedicated to increasing the ability of California's students to communicate in languages other than English. Given the recent world events and California's own demographics, the need for such competence is more obvious and greater than ever.
Although California law requires the State Board of Education to have content standards in core areas and although foreign language is part of the core curriculum, there currently are no content standards for foreign languages. SB 5 calls for the creation of content standards for foreign languages.
In today's educational climate, everything is based on standards and our subject does not have any. SB 5 would ensure that California's students are held to same standards. I encourage you to support SB 5 Curriculum: Foreign Languages.
